With the state of Himachal Pradesh nearing elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bilaspur and laid the foundation stone for AIIMS and IIIT and talked about launching a steel plant project in the area.
Referring to the opening of AIIMS as a boon, not just for the Himachal Pradesh residents but also for the tourism industry, he claimed that having an elite hospital with a functional trauma centre will lure tourists to coming to Himachal Pradesh.
Veteran rocker Tom Petty has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 66. Petty's longtime manager confirmed the singer's death and said that he took his last breath at his home in Malibu.
Petty suffered cardiac arrest at his home and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. surrounded by family, his bandmates, and friends.
Born October 20, 1950, in Gainesville, Florida, Petty became interested in the genre when he met Elvis Presley at age ten; he said he knew he wanted to form a band when he saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. He even took lessons from future Eagles guitarist Don Felder.
As the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ completes its 3rd Anniversary, Prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation at an event at Vigyan Bhavan. The Centre’s Swachhta mission that coincides with Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary and was launched with an aim to create Swachh Bharat by 2019.
The vision to achieve the target by 2019, is to present ‘Clean India’ as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary.

An active shooter fired at an outdoor concert crowd in Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Casino area. At least 50 people died and 400 were injured in the shooting, that was later claimed by ISIS. The roads leading to the Vegas strip were shut by the police. The gunman was shot down at the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. The Nevada sheriff identified Stephen Paddock as the suspected gunman in Las Vegas shootout.
