Don’t Push Your Luck: China’s Defence Ministry Threatens India - The Quint

China’s People’s Liberation Army on Monday warned India not to underestimate its determination to safeguard what it considers sovereign territory. The statement comes amid an ongoing standoff between the two neighbors over a contested region in the Doklam Plateau.

Earlier on Thursday, India’s Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj addressed the Rajya Sabha and said that the Government of India is ready to hold talks with China if both sides pull back their forces to end the standoff. Tensions have been high since June, when China began construction in the Doklam Plateau, an area also claimed by Indian ally Bhutan .

Politics Sometimes Overpowers Economic Reforms: Yashwant Sinha - The Quint

In an exclusive conversation with The Quint’s editorial director Sanjay Pugalia, Former Minister of Finance and Minister of External Affairs Yashwant Sinha shared his thoughts on the current political and economic affairs in the country.

Speaking about the manner in which economic reforms have led to progress in the country, Sinha said that parties who oppose them are being opportunistic, leading to politics often overpowering economic reforms. However, governments have mostly been in favour of economic development, he said.
