Students Bemoan Violence at IIT Madras over ‘Beef Fest’

The thrashing of a PhD scholar at IIT Madras has drawn widespread criticism from students across India. A group of students, allegedly affiliated to a right-wing union, had roughed up R Sooraj on Tuesday for participating in a beef fest organised in defiance of the Center's controversial ban on sale of cattle for slaughter.

The Quint: Kerala Congress Men Slaughter Calf at Event, Rahul Condemns Act

Police booked some Youth Congress activists who allegedly publicly butchered a calf to protest the Centre's ban on sale of cattle for slaughtering, as the incident drew flak from various quarters.
Kerala BJP President Kummanam Rajasekharan, who posted the video of the gory incident on Twitter, called it "cruelty at its peak".
