The Quint: Kolkata Journalists Stage Protest After Being Assaulted by Police

While covering a protest march by the Left front in Kolkata on Monday, over 50 journalists were assaulted by the city police. Many of them were badly injured and required hospitalisation, as freelance journalist Tanmoy Bhaduri’s photographs reveal.
Even as the Communist Party of India’s (Marxist) farmers’ wing, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and other Left factions marched to “Nabanna” (State Secretariat) on Monday to protest against alleged corruption in the Mamata Banerjee led government among other issues, tear-gas shells and water canons were unleashed upon the agitators by the police, to break up the rally.
