Hardik Pandya is much better than me,” said Kapil Dev during an event in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Kapil Dev, who picked up 434 wickets in Tests and 253 wickets in ODIs, was considered one of the best fast bowlers and all-rounders in the world during his playing days.
Dev said that Pandya is very talented and he will only have to take care of his fitness. Kapil expressed that an all-rounder has to work the hardest in the team as he is expected to perform with bat and ball.
The former fast bowler also spoke about the current Indian team and why the Mumbai batting prodigy Prithvi Shaw shouldn’t be compared to Sachin Tendulkar.
Several questions are being raised on India’s clash against Pakistan during the 2017 Champions Trophy on 4 June, however Kapil Dev feels that the government should be left to make the decision on India’s participation. ‘Sportspersons want to compete with Pakistan, but government policies come before sports,’ said Dev. Speaking to the media at the unveiling of his first wax statue for the upcoming Madame Tussauds in Delhi, Dev spoke about India’s chances of winning the Champions Trophy as well the Indians selectors’ picks for the tournament.
