An Army major and a jawan were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district early on 3 August. Police sources said the two armed force personnel were gunned down by suspected militants. Another jawan was injured in the firing, PTI reported. Major Kamlesh Pandey, Sepoy Tanzin and Sepoy Kripal Singh were seriously injured in the attack, as per an India Today report.
Twenty two-year-old Ummer Fayaz Parray was allegedly abducted by militants in Shopian on 9 May. His body was found the following morning, riddled with bullet holes. Ummer was a lieutenant, the first from Kulgam in Kashmir, to be selected at the National Defence Academy. The son of an apple farmer, he was fond of playing sports and would have turned 23 in June.
Three civilians and one militant were killed while 17 others were injured on Tuesday in Chadoora area of central Kashmir's Budgam district. While the militant was killed in an encounter with the forces, the three civilians were killed when the security personnel reportedly opened fire on stone-pelting protesters near the encounter site. One Army jawan has also been injured during the encounter. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Durbugh area of Chadoora in the early hours of Tuesday following information about the presence of militants, a police official said.
