As thousands of voices screaming “I am Gauri, we are Gauri” echoed in the streets of Bengaluru on Tuesday, the message was clear – attacks of voices of dissent will not be tolerated and fight left behind by Gauri will be taken forward.
The I Am Gauri campaign, insisted that Tuesday’s rally was not condolences meet but a show of strength. The release of the special edition of Gauri Lankesh Patrike, affirmed that promise.
However, for the young, women journalist poised entering profession, Gauri’s death comes as a setback. The brazenness of attack has raised questions in their mind, about their safety.
A 32-year-old Manipuri man was allegedly assaulted brutally by the management staff of Hotel Empire, Jayanagar, Bengaluru.
S Paukhanmung, an employee of the hotel, was smoking on the terrace of the restaurant on the night of August 27. The operations manager of the hotel, Loknath, who spotted him smoking, asked him to pay a fine of Rs 100. When he questioned why he was being singled out, while others smiled as well, he was allegedly attacked.

Demonetised currency notes worth Rs 40 crore were seized from a former corporator's house in the city's western suburb, police said on Friday. "We found the illegal cash in the house of former corporator Nagaraj, during a search conducted on a court warrant in a criminal case and seized the banned notes in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination," said Police Station Inspector N. Srinivas. Nagaraj was not present when the police knocked at his house around 5 am, as he allegedly fled on learning about the search team. Police also faced resistance from Nagaraj's family in entering the house and had to break open the main door with the help of a blacksmith for the search operation. "As the search operation is continuing, further details will be given later," said Srinivas.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, the first Indian institution to make it to the top 10 in a global ranking, has been ranked at the top in the annual national rankings released by the HRD ministry. Huge clouds of white, toxic foam floating up onto the roads is a common occurrence that people have got used to at Bellandur Lake. Every once in a while though, the situation does get worse. On Thursday evening, a part of the lake caught fire, with fumes spreading across Sun City Apartments and the nearby Iblur flyover. According to locals at the spot, illegal dumping of debris has been a common occurrence near the lake. A part of the lake was set ablaze at around 5:50 pm, eyewitnesses said.
