Agra's Trans Yamuna Colony has 46 private hospitals in a stretch of 1.8 kilometres. On visiting several of these hospitals, The Quint finds the sorry state that they function in, often compromising patients' safety in the greed for money. Unqualified 'doctors', under-equipped facilities and makeshift arrangements, putting human lives at risk.
In a re-run of the Dana Majhi incident, the uncle of a seven-month-old girl, who died during treatment at the district hospital in Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh), had to carry her body on a bicycle as his plea for an ambulance fell on deaf ears. The incident, which took place on Monday, prompted the authorities to lodge an FIR against the doctor on duty and the driver of the ambulance on Tuesday. The hospital too has launched an inquiry in this regard.
When Mohammed Sharoze Khan could not bear the stories of poor people being denied ambulance in rural areas, he came up with a solution. Mohammed designed a bike ambulance.
“We work for the physically handicapped. we design vehicles for them like cars scooters, bikes. So, I thought why not design an ambulance to solve the problems faced by people living in rural areas”, he says.
