Udhampur District of Jammu Kashmir experienced heavy snowfall and landslides. Around 150 vehicles have been stranded on the Jammu Srinagar Highway for more than 72 hours. The highway was closed down due to the dampness in the weather because of continuous rainfall. Not just humans, cattle are also suffering because of scarcity of food. The cattle owners are very worried as without food the cattle is likely to perish. Seeking to experience a divine festival of colours, devotees from across the country thronged Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on Wednesday to play Lathmaar Holi. Unlike any other holi played across the country, lathmaar holi involves not just the an array of dry colours, but also sticks and drums. However, the main attraction of this special holi was the presence of actors dressed up as lord Krishna and Radha, who adorned the centre stage. Additionally, performers from Rajasthan and Haryana too added their aura to the high-spirited event.
Suresh Mandal, a Muzaffarpur resident had to carry his wife's body wrapped in a piece of cloth on his shoulders on Wednesday after the government hospital (where the patient had died during treatment) refused to provide him an ambulance or mortuary van. Mandal's 30-year-old wife Shyama Devi, who had been admitted to the hospital since 18 February, died on Tuesday.
