Irom Sharmila and her
party workers blew whistles outside Manipur’s Thoubal Deputy Commissioner's
office after chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh filed his nomination for the
assembly elections on Thursday.
The gesture was symbolic as the symbol for the activists’s party Peoples' Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) is a whistle.
Ibobi, the state’s three time chief minister, had only finished filing his papers when Sharmila and her supporters gathered outside the office. In their own words, they blew the whistle to “call out the corrupt.”
