It is The Defeat of Muscle & Money Power: Ahmed Patel on RS Polls - The ...

Congress candidate Ahmed Patel on Wednesday beat the BJP nominee in a bitterly fought Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat after late night dramatic developments witnessed the Election Commission reject the votes of two dissident Congress MLAs for violating electoral rules.
Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, beat Balwantsinh Rajput with 44 votes.
BJP chief Amit Shah made his maiden entry into the house of elders, as did party nominee and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, clinching 46 votes each.
“It was a tough election, everyone worked together and our party emerged stronger out of it,” said Ahmed Patel after winning his Rajya Sabha seat on Wednesday.
He further said: “Under Rahul Gandhi's leadership Congress will be strengthened and we will win elections.”

EC Disqualifies Votes of Rebel Congress MLAs, But Will Patel Win?

The Election Commission on Tuesday disqualified the votes of two rebel Gujarat Congress MLAs, who had reportedly voted against Ahmed Patel.

A high-voltage Political drama over Rajya Sabha polls reached the Election Commission’s office in New Delhi, after the Congress alleged that two of its Gujarat lawmakers had shown their ballot papers to persons other than those authorised by the party.

First the Congress’ Randeep Surjewala reached the EC’s headquarters, demanding that the two votes be disqualified. The BJP too, fielded its top ministers to counter the Congress’ claim.

Opp Condemns Govt’s Price Hike of LPG Cylinders in Rajya Sabha - The Quint

A united opposition stalled the pre-noon proceedings in the Rajya Sabha protesting against the government’s decision to hike the prices of domestic cooking gas (LPG) by Rs4 per cylinder every month to eliminate all subsidies by next March.
Congress, SP, TMC, BSP and Left MPs stormed into the Well of the House shouting slogans seeking withdrawal of the decision, forcing deputy chairman P. J. Kurien to first adjourn the proceedings for 10 minutes and then till noon.
The issue was raised by Derek O’Brien (TMC) who gave a notice under rule 267 that seeks to set aside business of the day to discuss an important issue.
He said the government was not fulfilling its social commitment to provide cooking gas at subsidised rates. Oil prices have come down from $111 per barrel to $48 but the government is raising rates of cooking fuel, he said.
Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan had yesterday told Lok Sabha that the government has doubled the monthly increase in LPG price to Rs4 per cylinder from 1 July with a view to eliminate all subsidies by March 2018.
“Whey they make promises, why not implement it,” O’Brien asked.
