Ustad Bismillah Khan’s Legacy Flows Eternal Like the Ganga | The Quint

There was something special about him. It seemed as if the time has come to a stand still when he breathed into the shehnai. If one played word association with musical instruments, the word shehnai will without doubt with be associated with Ustad Bismillah Khan.
Bismillah Khan was born on 21 March 1916 in Dumraon village of Bihar. In his childhood, he was fondly called Kamaruddin. But since his grandfather used to call him Bismillah (an invocation used by Muslims at the beginning of an undertaking), everyone started calling him by same name. On 21 August 2006, Bismillah Khan passed away, leaving behind his legacy of music.
On his death anniversary, Soma Ghosh, the adopted daughter and protege of Ustad Bismillah Khan shared her memories with The Quint.
