During Guru Arjan Dev’s period, thousands of Indians - both Hindus and Muslims converted to Sikhism and was ordered by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir to stop preaching the message of God, which was started by Guru Nanak Dev. When the Guru refused to abide by the Emperor’s wishes, he was ordered to be tortured and executed. After five days of being made to sit on burning sand, in Lahore, he was escorted to river to taking a bath.
