20 Years of Uphaar Cinema Tragedy - The Quint


On 13th June, 1997, 59 people were killed in a fire in New Delhi's Uphaar Cinema. The fire started when oil leaked from the transformer in the parking area of the cinema hall. Soon the cars parked there were ablaze and toxic smoke filled the cinema hall. 59 people sitting on the balcony died due to asphyxiation as there were not enough exit routes.
