The Quint: Despite Govt’s Assurances, Legal Slaughterhouse Remain Shut i...

Delivering on their poll promise, the new BJP government in Uttar Pradesh came down hard on illegal slaughterhouses and shut them down across the state. The change of guard in the state has reduced the influx of buffaloes to the slaughterhouses and all the people associated with the business are panic-stricken.
Although, only illegal slaughterhouses have been targeted by the administration for now, there’s a deep sense of fear that even the licensed slaughterhouses might face the axe.
The Quint spoke to Lateef Ahmed, one of the workers at Al Farah Frozen Food. Although his company is licensed, it has been closed for last 3-4 days.
Despite repeated assurances from Uttar Pradesh govt that licensed slaughterhouses will not be targeted, the ground reality is that the legal slaughterhouses are not functioning out of the fear that they will be banned next.
