The Quint: Exclusive | A Strong Opposition is Essential For Democracy: N...

In an exclusive interview to The Quint, union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that it is imperative for a democratic country to have an opposition.
Ridiculing rival party Congress, he said that the people had taken a decision to not recognise the party as an opposition in the Parliament. He further added that the party had managed to pocket only seven seats in UP, despite having snagged an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.
Stating that the BJP’s well-wishes will remain should the opposition put up a united front, Naidu affirmed that such a situation is close to impossible. Highlighting the politics in states without a BJP-led front, Naidu said that the opposition parties will never agree for an alliance with each other. “If it happens, it will be easier”, he said.
